It all started when...
Run to the Sun founders put their hearts, time, and talent into creating a great fundraising event since 2006! In year 10, they made the decision to hand this event over to CUDAS Unhooked, a charity affiliated with New Smyrna Beach’s local high school.
Run to the Sun is a memorial in honor of Jefferson H Ridgdill . Not only was Jeff born and raised in New Smyrna Beach, he was a graduate of New Smyrna Beach High. With his love for his hometown and his passion for future graduates. Jeff also was high school teacher who taught social studies, economics and government at Spruce Creek High. He had love for surfing and he even was known as a local musician and had a band called “Wild Honey”. He spent much of his time sponsoring high school clubs and volunteering for local charities. His endless effort to help others and his passion for youth spread through out the community.
In 2006 Mr Ridgdill passed away after a three and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. In celebration of his life and to continue his work in supporting the future high school graduates of New Smyrna Beach Jeff’s daughter, Angi Ridgdill Palmieri, created Run to the Sun. Angi poured her love for her father and his work into our amazing event and has built it to an annual event to honor her father’s work.
Jefferson H Ridgdill would have been in full support of the great things that CUDAS UnHooked is doing for deserving students in our community and we ask that you join us in celebrating his life, his love and his legacy.
